I've always been drawn to the hills for my running and I'm a competitive beast by nature. I trained for several years guided by various local running clubs and managed to get to a level where I'd finish top end of the field but never achieving my long term goal of representing Northern Ireland in the fells. Always the bride's maid with a few reserve spots!
I decided to try focussed coaching with Casey having been recommended through a friend in October 2016. A solid Winter base of structured training followed within days of meeting Casey and by April 2017 I finally got the call I'd been waiting for...... International starting selection for Northern Ireland at the Inter Counties in May 2017. By May 2017 I even went way beyond what I thought I could possibly achieve. I managed to be the first finishing athlete of the 4 strong mens team that Northern Ireland selected and a top 30 finish overall from the best fell runners in the UK.
Casey's training is superb and this is the only time in my 12 years of running (last 2 with Casey's guidance) that I turn up to every single target race feeling ready to completely unleash. At no point have I even been close to being injured either which is surprising given my fairly rapid progression. I still don't know how he manages to get me in shape at all the right times, maybe he's a wizard but all I know is that if you're looking to excel in your running, make contact with the man himself pronto. I started running about 6 weeks ago after I ended up getting a place in HK100 Ultra. Having never run before it was a clear decision to just ignore it, but it didn’t feel right. I googled for ultra coaches and spoke/met multiple coaches. Casey clearly struck out as one who was genuinely interested in training, felt strongly about the sport, spent an hour talking to me, didn’t have a “business like” approach to his coaching and really made it sound achievable. I’m certain I’ve made the right choice and I’m thoroughly enjoying my coaching sessions and regular discussions. He’s a reliable coach with a sense of humor who responds to your questions promptly and keeps you motivated all along.
While it’s only been a few weeks I already - 1. Feel the difference in my running and 2. feel the fear of disappointing him if I fail my goals and that only comes when you know and respect your coach and his time investment.

It’s really easy to follow the exercises because each one comes with a video demonstration and, unlike gym appointments, you can do them in your own time. Casey takes into account your workload, daily routines and travel plans so that the sessions can fit in with your life. I enjoy reporting back to him, it keeps me motivated and on track.
